Current status of steel slag grinding technology

In recent years, the application of new steel slag grinding technology and new equipment has become increasingly widespread. On the basis of traditional ball mills, China has successively developed roller press semi-final grinding, roller press final grinding, and vertical grinding with more advanced technical indicators. Type mill, horizontal roller mill, etc., have enriched and developed the technical connotation of steel slag grinding from different application angles and technical characteristics.

Ball mill is a traditional equipment that grinds materials after simple mechanical crushing. With the continuous advancement of ball mill related technologies, ball mills can also grind materials with high hardness, such as steel slag. The advantages of ball mills in grinding materials mainly include strong adaptability, large crushing ratio, simultaneous grinding and drying, simple structure and maintenance management, good sealing, stable operation, reliable operation, etc. , especially in the cement grinding operation has been favored, which also makes the history of the ball mill and the cement industry is almost as long. The specifications and materials of the grinding body of the ball mill can be adjusted according to the material properties, which enables the ball mill to grind steel slag with high hardness, but the unit power consumption for grinding steel slag powder with a specific surface area of 400 m2/kg is about 100 kW·h/t . However, the shortcomings of the ball mill are also obvious, mainly because of expensive configuration, severe wear, low work efficiency, and large energy loss. Taking the production of cement as an example, the power consumption per 1 ton of cement produced is not less than 70 kW·h, but only About 5% of the electrical energy is used to increase the surface area of the material, and most of the electrical energy is converted into heat and sound energy and wasted. However, the shortcomings of ball mills such as high energy consumption and serious grinding loss limit the development of ball mills in the field of grinding steel slag.

Because of this, the grinding industry has never stopped researching and developing new grinding equipment and new technologies for the purpose of improving grinding efficiency and reducing energy consumption and steel consumption. In recent years, on the basis of using the ball mill as the final grinding, Hangzhou Iron and Steel has adopted the vibration mill as the pre-grinding equipment, and Maanshan Iron and Steel has developed the roller press as the pre-grinding equipment, which has greatly improved the grinding efficiency of steel slag.

1) Steel slag contains calcium aluminate ferrite, magnesium-iron phase solid solution, metallic iron and other difficult-to-grind components, so that the energy consumption of grinding steel slag to a suitable fineness remains high.

2) In China, the adaptability of roller press + ball mill combined grinding, roller press final grinding, vertical mill and horizontal roller mill to prepare steel slag powder with high efficiency and low consumption has been explored. Roller press + ball mill combined grinding and combined grinding The process is superior to the final grinding process of the ball mill, and the “surface contact” material bed grinding equipment is superior to the “point contact” material bed grinding equipment. The combined grinding process technology and “surface contact” material bed grinding equipment can Significantly increasing the output and reducing the power consumption of the system can be regarded as an important research direction of the steel slag grinding technology in the future. The final grinding technology of horizontal roller mill will be the development direction of steel slag grinding technology in the future.
